Wawel

Wawel Hill- the limestone rock towering 25 meters above the level of Vistula River. First Residence of Polish Kings, Dukes and seat of their political power from 10th century until 1609.

• Wawel Cathedral-witness of 19 coronations of Polish Kings, 18 coronations of Polish Quinns and place of final rest for almost all of them. Mother of polish churches for centuries, center of worship of St.Stanislaus since the mid-thirteenh century, destination of numerous pilgrimages especialy during austrian and german occupation.
  You can climb the Sigismunt Tower and touch the bigest and the most impressive bell in Poland weighing almost 11 tons.
• Wawel Royal Castle-with arcaded courtyard designed in italian style represents magnificant example of rennaisance arcitecture. The splendid castle courtyard withnessed the spectacular life of the royal court, greeting ceremonies and knightly tournaments. Today you can admire Castle Chambers-private and representative rooms, treasury and armoury, Orient in Wawel collection.
• Dragon's Lair-135 spiral steps led downinto the den of it and there are 145m. of tunnels in total. The bronzer statue of the dragon stands at the exit and exhales a fire every 3 minutes.
• Archeologocal Site-an open area where foundations of medieval buildings can be seen. Most of them were demolished by tha Austrian Army in 1803-04 and replaced by a drill ground.
